Hi! My name is Zoe (Tzu-Jo) Lin, currently a graduate student in the Computational Design Practices program at Columbia University with a background in Cognitive Systems and DE&I UX research.
I am interested in the design of smart systems, both artificial and natural, most particularly, in deceptively "dumb" systems that behave intelligently and robustly.

I approach design through the lenses of
psychology, philosophy, linguistics, and computer science.
Maneuvering between value systems, resolving issues through active shifts in perspective is central to my design thinking.
"
I am driven by my passion for understanding and consolidating the often conflicting intersections between the values and frameworks of technology and society,
addressing the types of issues this tension can produce.
My research with Columbia focuses on utilizing data to power impactful design decisions, however as data do not speak for themselves, I practice aims to incorporate human consideration
and feedback during the setting of system goals and data representation through grounded observations of the data’s locality.
While rigorous in data, what truly drives my research it
my focus on bridging the areas of confluence where data meet humans — my practice is informed by my experience in communications strategies and UX design.
